State Capitol State Park Draft Master Plan
The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department is completing a planning process for the use, management and improvement of our new State Capitol State Park that includes the Capitol Building grounds, Willson and Capitol Parks and the Capitol Mall.

Our department was granted the responsibility for managing these grounds as a state park in 2007.  Since then, we have made several improvements to the park including the Fallen Workers Memorial, tribal flags display, planting around the Sprague Fountain, opening views through the mall, providing seating, running the fountains seasonally and adding state park signs.  There is much more to be done.

We are planning, in 2009-2011, for a comprehensive vision, objectives, strategies, site concepts, way-finding and interpretive improvements and management guidelines for the park.  We are working with a Stakeholder Group and Technical Advisory Group that represent a broad spectrum of interest groups and agencies related to the capitol site.

Reports, Site Plan and Other Information
Please take a look at the following files to gain an understanding of our planning work so far.

We expect to have a draft plan document ready in July.  Check back to this site to see that plan.  We hope to take the draft plan to the Capitol Planning Commission and Capitol Project Review Board in July and to our Oregon Parks and Recreation Commission in November, 2010.
